چکیده

Procuring reliable data on sensitive/stigmatizing variables is a tricky issue in many social surveys. When questioned through direct questioning respondents may report evasive answers on such sensitive variables. Consequently, a bias creeps into the estimates based on evasive answers. Different indirect questioning methods such as Item Count Technique, Three Cards Method and Randomized Response Technique (or Scrambled Response Technique) are available. The present article considers unbiased estimation of mean and sensitivity level of a sensitive variable via scrambled response modeling. The idea of dividing the sample into two subsamples has been explored further by using a separate randomization device in each subsample. Additionally, the probability of reporting the true response is distributed into two randomization stages. Relative efficiency comparisons are also made, numerically, in order to highlight the performance of proposed scrambling technique. The proposed technique resulted in relatively more precise estimation of mean but the estimator of sensitivity level is seen to be relatively less efficient. The use of proposed scrambling technique is recommended for use in the surveys where estimation of mean is of prime interest.

Correction: Additive and Subtractive Scrambling in Optional Randomized Response Modeling

This article considers unbiased estimation of mean, variance and sensitivity level of a sensitive variable via scrambled response modeling. In particular, we focus on estimation of the mean. The idea of using additive and subtractive scrambling has been suggested under a recent scrambled response model. Whether it is estimation of mean, variance or sensitivity level, the proposed scheme of esti...

Cipher text only attack on speech time scrambling systems using correction of audio spectrogram

Recently permutation multimedia ciphers were broken in a chosen-plaintext scenario. That attack models a very resourceful adversary which may not always be the case. To show insecurity of these ciphers, we present a cipher-text only attack on speech permutation ciphers. We show inherent redundancies of speech can pave the path for a successful cipher-text only attack. To that end, regularities ...

SPOT-5 Spectral and Textural Data Fusion for Forest Mean Age and Height Estimation

Precise estimation of the forest structural parameters supports decision makers for sustainable management of the forests. Moreover, timber volume estimation and consequently the economic value of a forest can be derived based on the structural parameter quantization. Mean age and height of the trees are two important parameters for estimating the productivity of the plantations. This research ...

Generalized Family of Estimators for Imputing Scrambled Responses

When there is a high correlation between the study and the  auxiliary variables, the rank of the auxiliary variable also correlates with the study variable. Then, the use of the rank as an additional auxiliary variable may be helpful to increase the efficiency of the estimator of the mean or total of the population.   In the present study, we propose two  generalized familie...

195Pt and 1H NMR has been used to show that addition of chlorine and bromine to [Pt(CN)4]2_ in presence of perchloric acid in water results in cyanide and water scrambling with formation of eleven complexes of the type [Pt(CN)4-nCl(H2O)n+1](n-1)+ (n=0, 1, 2, 3, 4). Addition of NBu4OH ...
